Dotted about within walking distance of each other are many galleries. In some of them you can meet the artist at work and in others the owner will be available to talk to you about the exhibiting artists.

The route, affords visitors the opportunity not only to amble through town, but also see some of the art that has made Hermanus an art destination of note.

Hermanus First Friday Art Walk is part of a worldwide initiative to make art and art galleries more accessible to the public. On the First Friday of every month (except the 3 winter months June, July and August) more than 20 diverse galleries opens to the public. This is one way of celebrating the status of Hermanus as one of the top destinations for art in South Africa – an easy Art Walk through Hermanus Old Town. With several artist studios and attentive gallery owners, this walk offers you the opportunity to engage with the locals and explore the town on foot, discovering hidden gems along the way.
