About Canvas Collective & the Field Kitchen

Canvas Collective Africa was founded by Dez Lundy and Samara Stern. With significant operational experience as part of the mobile Chief’s camps, Dez knows how to create stunning luxury safari camps.  Samara comes from a front of house hospitality background.  This dynamic duo came together to create a wonderfully unique luxury tented camp in the Western Cape.

Taking their luxury tented camp to the next level, Dez and Sam also designed The Field Kitchen, a steel and glass mobile restaurant which has become a destination in and of itself.

What awaits gourmands and wanderers is an immersive experience where locations is determined by the sunshine quota, and where bountiful biomes are flush with forage-worthy ingredients.

Embrace the opportunity to go off grid with style, comfort and gastronomy. Be sure to book weekends ahead to avoid disappointment!

The Luxury Tent

The Luxury Tent

Our Luxury Tents are constructed entirely of canvas. We provide the ultimate upmarket abode for the discerning adventurist, a place for nature enthusiasts who love to celebrate the great outdoors but are reluctant to be parted from their creature comforts and daily indulgences. Within the canvas walls, a high-end haven awaits – complete with state-of-the-art amenities. The intimate living area is deceptively roomy, centered by a King-sized bed and handcrafted furniture, rugs and freestanding lamps framing the periphery. It is intimate and cozy, with just the right amount of lavishness on the side. Each tent boasts an unhindered flow from the sleeping area to the en-suite bathroom.

At the rear of the tent is the bathroom with hot and cold running water, a rain shower and a fancy flushing loo.

Outside the tent, nature watching is the order of the day as you fall back into armchair cushions and gaze at the magnificence that surrounds.  By day, guests can choose from our activities menu and by night there’ll be storytelling around the campfire and star gazing into ink black skies.

Select the location from our destination menu and we will pitch your deluxe digs in a mesmerizing locale. Expect the unexpected.

Interior
With the use of high end quality bedding, furnishings, linen and accessories, Canvas Collective Africa has created a unique luxury experience, comparable to that of a boutique hotel. Guest comfort in our tents is our top priority and a truly luxurious camping experience awaits.

Design
The natural and soothing palette – used both in colour and choice of materials –  ensures that the interior aesthetic blends seamlessly with the outdoor environment. Every detail of our Guests’ stay has been carefully considered and thoughtfully curated, from the king size bed with high thread count Egyptian cotton linen, to the fabric drapes, custom made mosquito net, standing fan, drinks trolley and the soft rugs underfoot, and our towels and gowns are 100% cotton. Where possible, we have supported local artisans including the Cape Society of the Blind where the hand woven light fittings were sourced. Emphasis has been placed on using eco-friendly and sustainable materials such as glass, bamboo and timber, and the eco friendly toiletry range was selected to minimise any environmental impact.

En-suite
The en-suite bathroom, set apart from the main area of both the tent and the cabin, is a stylish ablution area. Spaciously appointed, it is complete with a state of the art flushing loo and a luxuriating rain shower with hot running water.

Specifications
The Luxury Tent interior is 3,5m wide x 8m long, with an additional 2m covered front to provide Guests with generous space to move around, dress, shower and relax, and with a ceiling height of 2,7m at the centre of the tent that drops to 1.8m at the sides, our Guests can comfortably walk upright throughout.
