Our seaside town of Hermanus is famed for its whale watching, but the burgeoning foodie scene and stellar wine from the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, Botriver, Stanford and Gansbaai, is fast becoming a traveller’s delight. Unesco has confirmed this by naming the Overstrand as a Creative City of Gastronomy
Going Roaming takes guests on unique culinary experiences. We take you to the kitchens, homes, farms, gardens and restaurants of some of the Overberg’s most talented artisans – bake your own bread; make fresh mozzarella, harvest organic veggies with a village chef; blend your unique wine; make your own sausages. We then pair the culinary experiences with tastings of the local award winning wines. Guests can visit an abalone farm for a tour and enjoy a tasting and wine pairing on a beautiful wine farm with an exquisite view; or lace up your walking shoes and enjoy a guided fynbos (the indigenous floral kingdom) walk, followed by a wine tasting and lunch in a local wine cellar; or join our guide on a walking streetfood tour of Zwelihle, learning about the cultural stories of the various dishes.
Going Roaming gives guests a peek into the soul of the Overberg region; the tastes and smells of the food and wine; and the special people who work the soil, nurture the animals, protect the sea and the fynbos and cause people to come together and enjoy life.
